PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets bounced back to positive territory. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 201.997 billion after dropping MUR 125 million (about US$3.3 million) relatively to the previous market capitalization of MUR 201.872. The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) gained 0.06 percent or 1.12 points to close at 1,813.86 and SEM10 index added 0.18 percent or 0.61 points to end at 347.73 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 3,009,987 and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 24.815 million. The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings traded 2,314,700 (about 76.9 percent of total volume) at MUR 1.708 million and Rogers & Co Limited registered 305,340 traded stocks amounted to MUR 8.525 million. New Mauritius Hotel exchanged 105,024 shares at a turnover of MUR 1.838 million and Sun Limited recorded a total volume of 63,300 shares at MUR 2.117 million. CIM Financial Services Limited also recorded 57,000 shares at MUR 425,900.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 24 traded securities there were 5 price gainers and 5 price losers, hence the market sentiment stayed neutral. INNODIS Limited grew by 1.74 percent to end at MUR 41.00, SBM Holdings ended at MUR 0.74 after gaining 1.37 percent and United Basalt Products Limited surged by 1.33 percent to closed at MUR 76.00. LOTTOTECH Limited closed at MUR 3.18 by adding 0.63 percent and MCB Group soared by 0.24 percent to trade at MUR 207.00.
On the losing team, Plastic Industry Mauritius closed at MUR 63.50 after sagging by 2.48 percent and Rogers & Co Limited lost 2.48 percent to end at MUR 27.50. OMNICANE Limited slid by 1.54 percent to end at MUR 64.00; Sun Limited went down 1.47 percent to end at MUR 33.50 and CIM Financials Services settled at MUR 7.46 after dropping 0.53 percent.
The DEMEX index closed flat at 197.38 and the market capitalization closed at MUR 48.533.
